The Cancer Respite Center
About Pete’s Dream: A First-Of-Its-Kind Cancer Respite Center
Pete’s Dream will support adult cancer patients and their families as they navigate the challenges of a diagnosis together.
Developed by For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, Pete’s Dream will be a welcoming, accessible destination where families can step away from the clinical environment and focus on healing, connection, and strength. Set on 32 peaceful acres adjacent to Woodloch Resort, the center is scheduled to open in 2027.
Built on 25+ Years of Impact
For more than two decades, For Pete’s Sake has provided restorative Respite Experiences to adult cancer patients, their caregivers, and their children. Through this work, the organization has become the only respite-focused support care provider in oncology with published outcome data demonstrating measurable improvements in a family’s ability to cope with cancer.
Designed for Whole-Person Healing
Every square inch and element of Pete’s Dream has been intentionally designed using insights gathered from thousands of families and nominating oncology professionals. The center reflects a holistic approach to care, modeling it programmatic priorities based on the FPS Family Health Model.
Pete’s Dream includes:
- Creative arts and STEAM spaces
- Wellness and movement areas
- Music and library center
- Family gathering and game spaces
- Interfaith chapel
- Swimming pool and outdoor experiences
- A dining program serving approximately 60,000 meals annually
Together, these spaces create an environment where families can reconnect, recharge, and build resilience, side by side, as they meet other families traveling similar cancer journeys.
A Vision Realized Through Partnership
Pete’s Dream is becoming a reality through an innovative non-profit/for profit partnership with Woodloch Resort, who will manage hospitality operations including dining, housekeeping, maintenance, transportation, and guest services. This innovative collaboration ensures that every aspect of the experience is seamless, supportive, and centered on the needs of families.

Expanding What Cancer Care Can Be
Pete’s Dream represents more than a building, it’s a reimagining of how supportive care can be integrated into the cancer journey. All patients who receive a Travel Respite Experience are nominated by their oncology team. By expanding access to respite, For Pete’s Sake is helping families cope today while building a model for more compassionate, whole-person cancer care in the future.
